Google has just introduced a new Labs feature: Fast Flip. Basically, it lets you flip from page to page of Google News, kinda like how you would with a real newspaper. It only contains a few news sources, though hopefully the number will grow; it’s a pretty interesting experiment that, like Google Squared, is worthy of it’s own place in Google Apps.

Just my two cents about Da Mad Dok’s post on Google Search 2.0. There is a website that allows you to compare the normal Google and the Caffeinated Google.
If you go to www2.sandbox.google.com, you will find a Google Search. This, however, is more or less Google Search 2.0. In a series of tests in this article by Mashable, they proved that this new Google may be an actual threat to Bing. It found twice as many results in half the time for the simple inquiry of “dog”. They also found it cared more about the actual words in a sentence.
I love my iPhone. I’m typing this from the iPhone, in fact. But more to the point, I’d like to bring up one of my favorite apps so far: JellyCar. Cheapskate PC gamers may recognize it; it was a semi-popular (free) game that was called JelloCar. It’s actually quite a fun game, and if you can find I recommend downloading it. But anyways, back to JellyCar for iPhone. It plays quite simply; touch the left side of the screen to move left, and touch the right side to move right. You can also tilt either way to actually tilt your car in-game, thanks to the accelerometer. One word of advice, however; it requires a Wi-Fi connection or a connection to iTunes because it’s over a megabyte.
If you couldn’t tell by the title (I didn’t expect anyone to), I’ve fianlly got my hands on an iPhone. Well, a bit early thanks to the fact that the 3Gs were very limited and… well anyways, I’ve finally gotten one, and so might start a series about them soon. Da Mad Dok out.
In today’s Mac Monday we will take a look at the Dock. This is one of my favorite features of Mac OS X. For those of you who don’t know, the Dock is essentially a little box on the edge of your screen that has all of your applications (you can pick which ones you want to appear in it). To open one, all you have to do is click on its icon. I like this much better than having all of your applications on the desktop or buried in some folder because it means less time spent opening things, and more time doing things [translation: more organized]. If you are worried about the Dock taking up precious screen space, don’t fret! You can hide the Dock so it will only appear when you put your cursor on the edge of the screen. Let’s see what Da_Mad_Dok has to say to that… on Windows Wednesday!

When people say the term “PC”, they are generally talking about desktop computers that run Windows. But the truth is, PC stands for personal computer, which means it would refer to any computer you own, right? That includes computers running Mac OS X and Linux. So, should we change the way we think about the term “PC”? Drop a comment below and let me know what you think. I’d love to hear it!
This week we are covering two popular internet radio services: Pandora Radio and last.fm.
In Pandora’s favor is it’s ease of use. You go to the homepage, type an artist’s name, and it loads it for you. Also, you can make stations without an account and save them to your computer. With last.fm, it is technically possible to load stations without an account, but it just isn’t the same. also, Pandora has generally better widgets, considering they have many official widgets, unlike last.fm. Also, finally, song matches just seem better. Last.fm puts them based on tags, but Pandora has a selection process, which results in generally better music matches.
Last.fm, however, also has a much wider song selection, having at least one track per album. Oftentimes, Pandora only has one or two of the artit’s albums. Also, last.fm is much more social. Friends lists, a journal, tags, profiles, ratings… Pandora has none of these things. A final point in last.fm’s favor is it’s Songbird integration. It’s not much, but for certain people (like me) this is hugely important.
So in the end I’ll give the crown to Pandora for simplicity and to last.fm for features. Pandora is easy and has the basic features, but last.fm puts so much stuf in that you won’t know what to the with it.
