Google Flips Faster

September 15, 2009 Leave a comment

Google has just introduced a new Labs feature: Fast Flip. Basically, it lets you flip from page to page of  Google News, kinda like how you would with a real newspaper. It only contains a few news sources, though hopefully the number will grow; it’s a pretty interesting experiment that, like Google Squared, is worthy of it’s own place in Google Apps.

Find it here.

New York Times–Serving Up Malware Ads Since 1851

September 14, 2009 Leave a comment

Apparently, some visitors to nytimes.com saw an ad saying that they had malware, and linking to a site hawking a fake anti-malware scanner that actually infected their computers with malware.

Amusing.

Eee Keyboard Coming October

September 14, 2009 2 comments

Eee KeyboardI’m starting to think we should have a category dedicated only to Asus, as there is yet more Asus news, though this is somewhat less exciting.

The Eee Keyboard is coming out next month in the U. S. and Europe, barring any unfortunate problems. It’s interesting to note that there is not any specific date; Asus has simply confirmed that it will be coming in October.

Considering how soon it will be releasing, the specs that Gizmodo has seem to be correct: the screen will have an Intel Atom 1.6 GHz processor, 1 GB of DDR2 RAM, a 16 or 32 GB SSD, and 802.11n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI, and a battery, all of which powers a 5-inch touchscreen and an Ultra Wideband HDMI (with receiver) to connect to your TV. It will run Windows XP, though it may end up with Moblin Linux or Windows 7.

Did I mention this was all part of a keyboard?

iPhone Users Getting MMS Early, It Seems

September 13, 2009 Leave a comment

According to Mashable, some iPhone users are getting MMS today, almost two weeks before the expected rollout. There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason as to who’s getting it, but I personally have not been able to access it.

Facebook Lite

September 12, 2009 1 comment

This week Facebook rolled out Facebook Lite, a (somewhat) anticipated feature that allows you to see a simpler version of your Facebook feed. It’s located at lite.facebook.com, and personally, I believe this is a step in the right direction. The regular Facebook feed was getting way too crowded, and this makes sure people who like Twitter-esque simple get their way.

Feedburner

September 12, 2009 Leave a comment

The regular ol’ WordPress.com RSS feed is dreadfully boring, so I decided to make it a little better and switch to Google’s Feedburner.

Only too late did I find that the big orange RSS feed in this theme could not be changed. That means that either we had to change the theme (noooooo!) or I could put up a post explaining that our new official RSS feed was here.

In case you’re wondering, that links to http://feeds.feedburner.com/macvpc.

Yet More Asus: A Home Server?

September 12, 2009 Leave a comment

asus_home_server_croppedAccording to some Chinese shaky cam shots (see above), Asus may be about to join the home server market with the Asus Mini TS, which is supposedly 600 MHz faster than the Asus easyStore announced in May, even if it does lose two internal SATA slots. This would put them competing with Acer once again.
