The PS3 is officially Slim

Sony has finally come out with the PS3 Slim, and I’m impressed.  Not only did they make it 67% of the original PS3’s size, they doubled the hard drive size from 60 GB to 120 GB, and cut down on power consumption by 33%, thus reducing fan noise in the process.  They’ve also given the PS3 Slim a textured surface, so you can’t leave your grimy fingerprints all over the case.  Here’s what it looks like.

The PS3 Slim

Not too bad, eh?  As a little side note, the PS3 logo you see engraved on the top of the PS3 Slim is a new one.

The PS3 Slim will be available from September 1 on in North America, Europe, and several Asian countries, while Japan will get it several days later.  The 120GB PS3 Slim will retail for $299 or €299, while the current 80GB PS3 will see its price fall to $299 and €299 from August 18 and August 19, respectively.  The 160GB PS3 will see its price drop to $399 on August 18 also.  All PS3 Slims will ship with version 3.0 of the system software.
